COSMIC QUEST: HUNT FOR ALIEN LIFE

Growing up, I asked my dad some variation of whether we are alone in the universe. The more we learn about the stars, the better equipped we are to seek out any life that might be out there in other systems. In this blog post, we are going to take a look at where the search stands now, how that search is conducted and what finding life beyond Earth could mean.

But Why Look For Aliens In The First Place?

The search for other life in the Universe is partly scientific, part philosophical and also denotes our wish to understand more about where we live. It would change everything we currently know about biology, chemistry and the origin of life itself. What is more, such a find could greatly impact or very our future on this planet as well.

Methods of Searching

There are other techniques being used by scientists to find life off-Earth, both in our solar system and further afield. Below are a couple of potential approaches:

Planetary Exploration–Missions in our Solar System and Beyond to Search for Habitable Environments and Life: From the Mars rovers (Curiosity, Op)Ongoing search for Exoplanets.

Radio Astronomy – Scientists are using radio telescopes to attempt to listen for intelligent radio signals from another civilization; be it intentional transmissions or more likely, as the result of running our high-level communication technology.

Telescopes are being used to look for biosignatures—gases or odd light patterns that suggest the presence of life—in optical astronomy.

Astrobiology: What must exist in order to support life on Earth is being taken and applied to the search for life elsewhere.

Challenges and Prospects

Finding transitions to an extraterrestrial life is one of the most difficult tasks and we have to face many problems. These include the record breaking distances at play, the vast range of life forms unknown to us, and various reasons not to take any given signal as a sure sign of alien life. Today, technology and our knowledge of the universe have improved, enhancing the odds we will find them.

The Implications of Discovery

The discovery of life beyond Earth would have deep implications for the human race. It would establish that life on Earth is not alone, and could reveal essential information about the genesis and spread of biochemistry. It might also dramatically reshape our perspective on where we fit in the Universe as a species.

The astronaught centauri has quest continues, the astreonaut scientist beguiled by the tantalizing prospect of life on another world. The rewards for winning them are huge, but there is no mistaking the fact that they are among the toughest challenges faced by Star Fox and his crew. With our technology and knowledge of the universe, it is hoped that one day we will finally answer the question that has been plaguing us for centuries: Are we alone?
